Scoring 100% in Time Management

Scoring 100% in Time Management

Excellent school Exam grade

"About people who attempt to larn a new time management organisation neglect."

I tin't testify the above argument with difficult facts, but I take a sense that it's true, based on my personal experience and observations.  If success is defined every bit 100% successful implementation, then that statistic is most certainly truthful.

On the other paw, perhaps 99% of the people who take a time direction plan put downwards the book, or drive back home, agreeing with 100% of the ideas.

And then, the 1000000 dollar question is: what's the problem?

Did the time management gurus blind them with their brilliance?  Or does it show that we are all a bunch of lazy skilful-for-nothings with short attention spans, suffering from diverse degrees of ADHD?

The problem is not something that'due south addressed by the gurus, and it'south actually something that is being ignored by gurus and devotees alike.

It'south a problem in what we think time management IS.

Learning a new fourth dimension direction system is not similar learning differential calculus, financial accounting or particle physics.  Each of these subject-areas are new to nearly people, who typically come to them like a blank canvas, and without any homegrown capability any.  Nigh of us oasis't figured out our own system of computing depreciation earlier stepping into accounting 101.

Ironically, our ignorance helps..  A new organization of thinking is easier to learn when it's completely fresh to us, and only requires us to be gear up, willing and able.

Learning a new approach to time direction is much more difficult, because continuing in the way of a shiny new arrangement is the one that we are already using.

That's the aforementioned ane we offset put together when we entered loftier school, refined when we were in college, adjusted when we got our offset job, and started suffered with when we got married and institute a bunch of stuff falling through the cracks for the first time.

That's "the time direction system nosotros never knew we had."

(For some of us, calling information technology a organisation might be too much of a mental leap, but it's tough to get through higher without having put something in identify.)

This "system we never knew nosotros had" is comprised of habits, practices and rituals that accept been practiced over the years and are now congenital into our neuro-muscular systems.  In this sense, we are more than like smokers trying to quit some dangerous behaviors, than nosotros are mathematicians learning some brand new techniques.

Ask President Obama, or whatever smoker, and they'll tell y'all… quitting is tough.

But time management gurus don't tell y'all that irresolute the habits that make up your current fourth dimension direction system is simply every bit challenging. They don't become you to appreciate what you are up against every bit you try to reverse decades of practice, reinforced by some positive results that convinced your hidden that you had this time management affair beaten.

Non only don't you know all this, but most people try to learn a new time management system when they KNOW that their organization is no longer successful.  As you ponder your latest failure, you lot are driven crazy with desire for the new organisation beingness offered that seems to be so logical, sensible and like shooting fish in a barrel to understand.

This only adds to the frustration.  Information technology appears to be like shooting fish in a barrel, but isn't.

Here's a concept:Forget about learning a new time direction system, and instead take a programme in "Addiction Changing 101." Notice the unique set of deportment you must accept to modify your ingrained habits and so that they stay inverse.  Figure out the unique blend of goal-setting, community back up, backup plans, rewards, punishments, reminders, coaching, etc. that you need to succeed.

Once your special cocktail is figured out, and then take any time management programme that you desire, implement the changes slowly (one habit at a time,) and take plenty time to ensure that you won't lapse into the old habits when the inevitable crises hit.

You may still be failing to implement THEIR arrangement the fashion information technology "should" be done, but yous'll be 100% effective at upgrading your own.
